Last chance to register for Just Cook: Hereford – July 4th

Anyone wishing to attend the SecuriCare Just Cook roadshow in Hereford on July 4th need to think about registering their places now, if they have not already done so, before it is too late as the event is rapidly approaching! Where is this year going?!?!

Here’s more about the event, what to expect and the itinerary for the day direct from the Just Cook Roadshow press release. If you are interested in attending you can register your place by contacting SecuriCare direct via the contact details at the end of this post.

  • Location:  Hinton Community Centre, Association Road, Hereford, Herefordshire, HR2 7RJ
  • Date:          Wednesday 4th July 2012 at 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Phil Hawthorn, author and entertaining cook, and Kate Cook, expert nutritionist will demonstrate how anyone can cook up some delicious dishes which are nutritional and tasty.  The main focus of the Roadshow will be to look at the types of food that effect people with a stoma and how to replace ingredients in order to keep the food tasty and healthy. Members of SecuriCare’s Nurse team will also be on hand to discuss any individual issues after the roadshow and will also answer questions throughout.
  • There will also be an informative talk by Claire Hills, CliniMed’s Stoma Product Specialist, and a chance to see CliniMed’s new range of products.  There will be information stands and our team will be on hand to offer help and advice regarding the services and products.  There will also be refreshments.
  • The SecuriCare Just Cook programme will include:
  • ·         10.00 a.m.  Refreshments, tea, coffee and cakes
  • ·         10.30 a.m.  CliniMed Product Specialist, CliniMed product overview
  • ·         10.40 a.m.  Customer Service Presentation followed by a Q&A
  • ·         10.50 a.m.  Kate Cook, Expert Nutritionist, discusses food for health and energy
  • ·         11.35 a.m.  Phil Hawthorn, Just Cook’s Cook, demonstrates some easy, tasty meals
  • ·         12.40 p.m.  Chat with the Just Cook Team

The “Just Cook” Ostomy-Nutrition Roadshow’s coming to Hereford!

Look out for the ASDA roundabout, from the roundabout turn left into Hinton Road (by Welsh Club). Take the first right into Hinton Crescent and first right into Hollybush Walk. The hall entrance is at the end of the road to the right of the LEA pool. There is also pedestrian access from Ross Road.

SecuriCare’s event will give you an opportunity to watch their cook, Phil Hawthorn, cook up some delicious dishes and get some valuable nutritional expertise from Kate Cook. There will also be an informative product talk and a chance to see CliniMed’s new range of products – including the Freestyle Vie Flushable which we reviewed here on Ostomyland earlier this week with our three day wear test! There will be information stands and our team will be on hand to offer help and advice to you regarding the services and products. There will also be refreshments and lunch provided.

CliniMed Travel Advice Day

UK stoma care products company CliniMed and Stoma Care Nurses will be holding a travel advice meeting for ostomists at Loughborough Town Hall, UK, on May 31st this year.

This is a stoma information day with a travel theme. Stoma care nurses will be in attendance to offer advice and answer any questions.

If you have concerns about travelling with an ostomy, or advice on how to manage your stoma in hotels, or how to obtain emergency products if yours get eaten by the airport baggage system, or indeed any travel issues you’d like advice on come and give them a visit. And of course if you’ve any non-travel related issues you’d like advice on then you can ask them too!

Everyone welcome, regardless of if you live in the Loughborough area or not, and refreshments will be available.

How the Digestive System Usually Works (Stoma Care for Health Care Assistants)

Editorial #3: Building an Ostomy Reference Library from Freebie Company Leaflets has just been published on Ostomyland. It is the third in our new Editorials feature. This time around its discussing the wealth of information found in company patient-support booklets, and specifically we’re looking at the SecuriCare booklets which are by far-and-away my favourite of all the companies various ranges of free literature. SecuriCare are a UK home delivery service which forms part of the CliniMed group of comapanies, along with Welland Medical.

The SecuriCare booklets go far beyond being just product advertising for their pouches and skin care accessories like most company leaflets do. Instead, their literature offers you a comprehensive library of information about your ostomy and caring for it. Regardless of if you are awaiting surgery, or been an ostomate for many years, there is still information contained in these which make them worthwhile keeping.

The company also offer a range of booklets for carers and health-care workers too, and whilst the information contained within is aimed more for the medical professional than the patient they are still worthwhile having on your bookcase or in your desk drawer as they also include indicators of what possible problems can arise with a stoma, along with symptoms and advice. This, to me, makes them an invaluable set of booklets for all self-caring ostomates and not just for those who receive external help with managing their stoma.

Hard copies of all the leaflets are available for free to our UK readers, and for our international readers SecuriCare have kindly allowed us to host PDF files for many of their booklets which are available for free and immediate download, and you don’t even have to give them your contact details! If the booklet you are interested in is not available on the page in PDF format, please keep checking back as we hope to get some more available in the near future.
