The Osto-Ez-Vent is a very clever little product from America which is now available over here in the UK thanks to our friends at OstoMART which helps us vent out the trapped gas in our pouches.
When we are wearing today’s ostomy pouches they are very good at remaining hidden underneath our clothes, like our little secret. However, as we naturally express gas/wind and it starts to build up in the pouch it can become rather obvious to even the untrained eye. Regardless of if our pouches are filtered or not I should think it’s fair to say that every ostomate has encountered a time when their pouch has filled completely with air and left us looking like we’re hiding a hot air balloon down our pants or dresses.
In the past when this happened you were usually left with two options: 1. Change the pouch, or; 2. “Burp” the bag, which is when two piece users would un-clip the pouch a bit from the flange to let the air out, then reapply it. Or for one piece users it was a riskier proposition to do this as you’d have to lift a portion of the adhesive baseplate off the skin, let the air out, then try to stick the patch of baseplate back down although which never adhered like it did upon the original application.
Thankfully though, there is now a third option which will be especially useful to the one piece pouch wearing ostomates around the world when they apply the vent when they first stick their pouch in place.
